Are you the owner?

What we know as of 16 October 2026

The estate no longer says anything about itself. Its website, valdargan.com, was still live in June 2023. By August 2023 the address pointed to an expired hosting page, and since December 2023 it has shown a parking page. We checked again on 16 October 2026: the domain name is listed for sale. We found no new website.

The visiting terms in circulation online differ from one guide to the next, on the days and on booking, and none of those guides is dated. The estate itself publishes no hours and no price. So we repeat none of those figures: only the estate can give them.

The last main line the estate published is +212 524 783 467, with the address d.valdargan@gmail.com (archived website, March 2023). The same website linked to an Instagram account, @levaldargan, and a Facebook page. We could not read either without logging in on 17 October 2026. Our advice: ring the day before and ask three things, the day, the time and the price. If nobody answers, do not make the drive.

What the estate offered in 2023

Charles Mélia, who has made wine at Château de la Font du Loup in Châteauneuf-du-Pape since 1977, planted this vineyard in 1994. The work, from clearing the land to the winery, took four years. The estate billed itself as the only one in Morocco given over to Rhône Valley grapes. It claimed 50 hectares and 13 varieties, up from 5 hectares at the start. Those are the figures the estate published in 2023.

The winery made around 1,500 hectolitres a year, or 200,000 bottles. An underground cellar can hold 300,000, and 40 barrels are used to age the Val d’Argan and the Orian red. The range ran to twelve wines under four names: Val d’Argan, Gazelle, Perle and Orian.

The panoramic restaurant was run by Rahma, a cook from Essaouira. Her Moroccan menu was built around the wines: mallow salad, beldi chicken, kid with argan, pastillas. At lunch, five wines from the Perle range were poured as freely as you liked. In summer the tables moved under the olive trees, beside the pool of the Ryad des Vignes. The estate also let guest rooms in stone, lime and wood, each with its own bathroom. No prices were published.

Our view: if the estate still welcomes visitors, lunch is what earns the drive, more than a tasting on its own. We found no source from the estate later than June 2023, though, that says whether the restaurant or the rooms still run.

Getting there, time needed

The estate is 28 km and 24 minutes from Bab Doukkala on the N8 then the N1, by our calculation. After the roundabout at Ounagha, the junction on the Marrakech road, it is about 4 km further north, towards Had Draa. The coordinates the estate published fall inside Had Draa commune, 1.7 km south of its market.

Allow half a day with lunch and the drive. The same road takes you past the argan cooperatives around Ounagha, and the weekly Had Draa souk is a few minutes away. Its days are in our section on the region’s markets and souks.

Our advice: if you are tasting, do not drive. Take a taxi hired for the trip, agree the fare before you get in, and arrange the return with the driver. Our page on getting around Essaouira explains grand taxis and how to agree a price. If the estate does not answer, give the half-day to the town’s ramparts and skalas instead.
