What the gallery shows
Galerie La Kasbah fills a restored 18th-century riad at 4 rue Tétouan, inside the walls. The ground floor covers 400 m², with three more floors above. It claims about a hundred Moroccan and international artists. Five names are put forward: Houssein Miloudi, Boujemâa Lakhdar, Brahim Mountir, Fatna Gbouri and Ahmed Mjidaoui.
Its artists’ page profiles 22 of them: ten in its local-artists section, tied to Essaouira and the Chiadma country, and twelve from elsewhere in Morocco. Most are painters. Mohamed Mazouz appears as a painter and calligrapher, Rabie El Mesnani as a painter and sculptor. It also holds a collection of 27 artists who have died.
The site does not say what is on the walls this month. Our view: come for the Essaouira painters, and ask at the door what has changed. A gallery is not a museum: the hang rotates, and your visit depends on what arrived the week before.
Hours, price, how long
The gallery’s website gives 09:00–21:00, Monday to Sunday (read 17 October 2026). Twelve hours a day, seven days a week, is a wide window for a medina gallery. The site is ageing: its last dated exhibition closed in January 2017, and its latest press items went online in November 2023.
No admission price is published, on the home page or the contact page. The booking page has nothing to offer. Nor does the site say entry is free, so ask when you arrive. Prices for the works are not online either.
The gallery gives no visiting time, and four floors are yours to take at your own pace. Our advice: go late morning, and ring before an evening visit.
What to avoid
Do not rely on hours from a travel aggregator. The only published hours are on the gallery’s own website, which has dated no exhibition since 2017. Ring 0524 47 56 05, or message 0661 20 71 45 on WhatsApp, on the day.
Do not walk in with a budget you keep to yourself. Ask the price of a piece before the conversation starts. Leaving without buying is normal in a gallery, and nobody will hold it against you.
