What goes on behind the door
Dar Souiri is the headquarters of the Association Essaouira-Mogador, founded in 1992 by André Azoulay. The house describes itself as a cultural centre open to everyone.
The association puts on exhibitions, concerts, screenings, debates and public meetings here. It also runs Arabic and Spanish classes.
A film club runs alongside them, with a weekly drama workshop for children aged 9 to 12 and a painting workshop for ages 7 to 12. The Chœur d’Essaouira Mogador sings here.
Our view, plainly. Come for something on the bill, not for a museum visit.
Worth going in when nothing is on?
With no event on, Dar Souiri is the base of an association, with activity and meeting rooms that it also hires out.
The association announces no drop-in visits, no ticket desk, no route and no public opening hours. Nothing it publishes promises a visit outside the programme.
We will be blunt. If nothing is on, do not make the detour for the house alone, and carry on towards the Skala.
The place earns its keep on a concert night or during a hanging. At the 2026 Gnaoua Festival, Dar Souiri was one of the venues for the intimate concerts, at 250 MAD an evening, sold at the festival shop (official ticketing page, read on 17 October 2026).
For the 22nd Printemps Musical des Alizés, from 30 April to 3 May 2026, several concerts on the official programme were held here. The Orchestre Philharmonique du Maroc billed every one of them as free.
Hours, prices and what is on
The association publishes no opening hours on its website, read on 17 October 2026. So we give none: an unconfirmed timetable too often sends readers to a locked door.
No admission price is published. Activities and events go through an online booking form that shows no fee.
The association’s site does carry a diary. As of 17 October 2026, though, it shows test entries and impossible dates, among them a Gnaoua festival running from 8 December 2026 to 31 January 2027.
Do not plan around those dates. Ring +212 524 475 268 or write to essmog@gmail.com, the two contacts the association publishes itself.
The association also hires out its rooms for meetings and activities. Requests go to Madame Nora Saraoui, whose email address the site does not give.
