What a lesson includes: instructor, kit and the 4×4
Kitesurf Maroc sells lessons in two-hour blocks, from 2 to 10 hours, in three formats. In a group, one instructor teaches up to 4 students, who share one kite between two or two kites between three. Semi-private means 2 students, each with their own kit. Private means the instructor is yours alone.
Two hours cost €60 in a group, €90 semi-private and €110 private. Six hours cost €170, €260 and €320, ten hours €270, €420 and €500 (prices checked on 25 October 2026, in euros only, with no dirham equivalent). They cover the kite, bar, board, harness and the return ride by 4×4 to the spot. Helmets and buoyancy vests are available, and every instructor carries a radio.
The school grew out of a 4×4. Abdelfatah El Abdi, a windsurfing champion, founded it around his vehicle in October 2011. Each day the 4×4 heads for whichever spot the conditions favour, so you are not tied to the bay. The only spot named is a “Kite Beach”, never located. The school also claims to have been in Essaouira “for more than 16 years”, which the 2011 date does not bear out.
To ride on your own, the school rents kit at €50 a half day, €70 a day and €350 for 6 or 7 days, 4×4 rides included. Damage insurance is extra: €15 a day or half day, €70 a week. The kit is Duotone and ION. Explora Watersports also charges insurance separately, €10 on a €40 half-day rental (both schools’ prices checked on 25 October 2026).
Where the base is, and how to get there
The base is on avenue Mohammed V, the seafront road, with no street number. It sits 100 m in a straight line south of L’Océan Vagabond. From place Moulay Hassan it is 2.4 km and a 32-minute walk along the bay’s beach. A taxi from Bab Doukkala covers the 3 km in about 5 minutes.
You meet at the base, not at the spot, because the 4×4 leaves from there. The departure time is set when you book. Ask for it, as the drive to the spot comes on top of the two hours of teaching.
Who it suits, and what to know before booking
Our view, drawn from these figures: the group format, at €30 an hour, suits a beginner happy to share a kite. Private lessons cost €110 for two hours and €320 for six, against €120 and €365 at Explora on the same date. To compare it with the other schools, see our kitesurfing section for Essaouira.
Three instructors speak French, English, Spanish and Arabic. Two add Italian, one Catalan. The instructors are billed as certified to “international level 3”, with no body named. Ask which one before you pay. For independent riders the school runs a downwinder called “Moulay” at €75 a head, finishing point not given. It also runs surf days to Sidi Kaouki (€60) and Imsouane (€90).
Booking is on quotation, by phone or email. The programme is adjusted to the weather, but there are no written cancellation terms and nothing on what becomes of a lesson booked for a windless day. For days with neither wind nor waves the school offers a paddleboard or canoe outing, €40 for the short one and €55 for the long one. Get the cancellation terms in writing before you pay anything.
