What you pay, and what the price list leaves out
Explora sells lessons from 2 to 12 hours, in a group, semi-private or private. Every price is given in euros and in dirhams (prices checked on 25 October 2026). Lessons are converted at 11 MAD to the euro. Two hours cost 660 MAD (€60) in a group, 990 MAD (€90) semi-private and 1,320 MAD (€120) private. Six hours cost 1,925 MAD (€175) in a group and 4,015 MAD (€365) private. Twelve group hours come to 3,520 MAD (€320), or 293 MAD an hour.
If you ride on your own, a half-day of kit hire costs 440 MAD (€40), and insurance is charged separately at 100 MAD (€10). Six days cost 2,750 MAD (€250), plus 500 MAD (€50) of insurance. The conversions do not all use the same rate. Hire is at 11 MAD to the euro, except a single day, at €65 or 660 MAD. Insurance is at 10 MAD to the euro throughout.
Nothing says what a lesson includes (wetsuit, harness, helmet), how many pupils share an instructor in a group, or what the hire insurance covers. The terms and conditions exclude any cover for customers, liability or accident, in a lesson or riding alone. They also set prices in euros, at the exchange rate of the day you pay. Our advice: arrive with insurance that covers kitesurfing, and get the dirham amount and what the 100 MAD pays for confirmed in writing.
Where the school is, and how to get there
The base is on the beach, on boulevard Mohammed V, in Essaouira bay. From place Moulay Hassan it is 2.3 km and a 30-minute walk via avenue Oqba Ibn Nafiaa. By taxi from Bab Doukkala, allow 2.7 km and 4 minutes without traffic. The school has parking, with no stated charge.
According to the school, the wind is steadiest from late March to late November and strongest from June to late August. To judge when to move on to Sidi Kaouki or Moulay Bouzerktoune, our kitesurfing section compares the coast’s three stretches of water.
Who it suits, and what to know before you book
The lessons are aimed at beginners and intermediates: you start on the sand with a two-line kite, then come the water, the board and riding upwind. The school lists eight IKO-certified instructors, the centre manager among them (team as of 16 September 2026). No IKO centre number is given, and the VDWS logo it displays carries no written claim. Our advice: ask for your instructor’s name and IKO level before you pay, and for the card on the first day.
Booking goes through a quote request form, with no online payment. The terms and conditions (May 2024) ask for half the price as a non-refundable deposit and the balance ten days before arrival. A lesson cancelled for weather does not oblige the school to refund. Our advice: on a short stay, book the first few hours, then the rest once you have seen the wind.
For comparison, Kite and Surf Essaouira also charges €120 for two private hours, with the kit listed and supplied. Ocean Vagabond, on the same beach, sells it from €123. Both price in euros only (prices checked on 25 October 2026).
